Lower Blood Pressure by Drinking Healthy Coffee

Monday, October 18, 2010

Who would have thought that by 2009 we would find a way to make our daily pleasure of drinking coffee that has in the past caused some health issues for folks into a way to gain control over our own blood pressure. I know many friends who have in the past been told by their doctors that they have to give up coffee because of blood pressure that are now able to enjoy that cup of brew and gain great health benefits at the same time. What allows for this unusual switch in how we drink coffee? Simple, a herb called Ganoderma.

The Ganoderma Lucidum also known as reishi, an active ingredient in healthy coffee, is a form of medicinal mushroom used in traditional Chinese medicine for many years. It has been described in Chinese medicine as the "mushroom of immortality" due to its many health benefits. The Reishi mushroom, according to the Chinese medical book Shen Nong's Herbal Classic positively affects the Qi of the heart and relieves chest tightness. The ancient Chinese believe that long term consumption of the herb will lighten the body and lengthen the years.

Drinking coffee everyday is not anymore detrimental to our health. Coffee with Ganoderma as its active ingredient has many health benefits, to wit: anti-tumor properties, anti-allergenic, antiviral, antioxidant, and anti-hypertensive. Laboratory studies have found that the Reishi mushroom extracts shows anti neoplastic effects against some types of cancer cells. Their animal model shows that Ganoderma prevents cancer metastasis.

People with problems on their high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels can benefit highly from the Ganoderma herb. The Ganoderma extracts reduce blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels by inhibiting cholesterol synthesis. It also aids in improving the High density Lipoprotein (good cholesterol). Preventing the increase of cholesterol levels in the blood also prevents the risk of certain heart diseases and strokes.

Ganoderma mushroom is known to contain anti-hypertensive properties due to the presence of triterpines, a class of a hydrocarbon that helps lower down blood pressure by inhibiting the synthesis of the Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) which effects to the dilation of the blood vessel to accommodate the increase in blood flow. The increase in blood flow is accompanied by the increase of blood pressure. Increasing blood pressure is the body's compensatory mechanism to stress situations.

It is important to note here that Ganoderma is something organic; therefore, coffee that is mentioned is that of an organic coffee. For many of us who drinks coffee everyday, it is a relief that we can still drink coffee without compromising our health.
